Members ‘devastated’ by hospital closure

18 February 2021

The ANMF (SA Branch) understands 48 members will be adversely impacted by the looming closure of the Parkwynd Private Hospital on East Tce.

Staff were shocked and devastated to be told on Wednesday that the hospital will close its doors on April 9, leaving 103 people who work at the 23-bed facility with an uncertain future.

Healthscope, the company that operates Parkwynd, has said that the investment required to keep the 106-year-old building operating to accreditation standards was not viable, The Advertiser reported. The company also said the decision did not reflect the high skill and dedication of staff.

Healthscope, which operates other hospitals in SA and interstate, says it will look to assist staff in redeployment opportunities. It’s believed the company will also look at redeployment opportunities with Adelaide Community Healthcare Alliance, which runs the Ashford, Memorial and Flinders Private hospitals.

The ANMF (SA Branch) will work with members affected to ensure they are entitled to their full Enterprise Bargaining Agreement rights.

Members wishing to inquire about their rights and what action they can take should ring the Duty Officer on 8334 1900.
