Beer boost set to benefit Aged Care sector

The South Australia-based Maggie Beer Foundation would have a greater focus on food in aged care, including the development of new standards, if Labor wins the upcoming federal election.

A $5 million investment was announced by Labor leader Anthony Albanese with Maggie Beer at Adelaide’s Central Market.

The Foundation would also provide new education and training programs to support the sector under the investment.

Altogether, Labor has pledged $2.5 billion over four years to solve the crisis in the age care.

It includes tighter rules which will ensure a basic daily fee paid to providers is used for care and nutrition.

Labor has committed to improving food in aged care through new standards – restoring dignity for aged care residents

"These standards will be supported by workable guidelines, education programs and easy compliance which will not burden aged care providers with time consuming administrative functions," Mr Albanese said during his recent visit to Adelaide.

The Labor Party has also overwhelmingly supported the ANMF Fix Aged Care pledge which calls for:

- RN 24/7 – at least one registered nurse on site at all times
- Minimum mandated care hours and the right skills mix
- Greater transparency – funding tied to care
- Improved wages and conditions
