May Day March 2022

29 April 2022

Nurses, midwives and aged care workers will march between Elder Park and Victoria Square tomorrow (Saturday, April 30) as part of the annual May Day March.

May Day celebrates the power of unions globally in achieving better working conditions - such as the eight-hour working day - and also the achievements of working people.

ACTU secretary Sally McManus will be the guest speaker.

The ANMF (SA Branch) will be supplying purple t-shirts in support of aged care workers with the message: "Vote to make aged care ratios law".

May Day March is for workers, and there has never been a more critical time for workers to be seen and heard.

The May 2022 election is an opportunity to rectify years of staffing cuts in aged care resulting in gross understaffing and inadequate care as highlighted by the Royal Commission, and, in some instances, painfully fatal outcomes for Australia’s elderly citizens.

This is a call to all South Australians to join with the ANMF (SA Branch) and march together for everyone who works and lives in aged care.
