Big thanks to you following election result

23 May 2022

While the election is done and dusted, the ANMF (SA Branch) campaign to Fix Aged Care will continue until genuine reform is achieved.

The poll result is considered a ‘fantastic outcome’ as Anthony Albanese and Federal Labor are committed to:

  • A registered nurse in every nursing home 24 hours a day
  • A mandated minimum 215 minutes of care per resident per day
  • Funding real wage increases for aged care workers
  • Ensuring funding accountability for providers

“But rest assured, our campaign does not end here. We now have the busy task of holding the new Labor government to all of their aged care commitments,” ANMF (SA Branch) CEO/Secretary Adj Associate Professor Elizabeth Dabars AM said.

“We cannot emphasise how historic this is for aged care staff, residents and their families who finally have a government willing to end the neglect and create a better life for all in the sector.”

“The Albanese Government simply cannot shirk on the issue of aged care. Aged care workers need to be rewarded with long overdue wage rises for their stellar efforts during incredibly difficult times.”

Ms Dabars said an election result with a new Government committed to real reform in Aged Care would not have been achieved without the work, support and dedication of our members.

“Thank you to every member who has been involved in our aged care campaigns. Not just this election period, but the decades of campaigning and actions on the ground, led by aged care members and supporters fighting to improve the neglected sector,” she said.

“Your tireless advocacy, speaking to politicians, media and your community, led to the crisis in aged care becoming a prominent issue in this election.

“The community has listened to you, supported you and elected a federal government that is committed to reforming aged care and delivering ratios in aged care.”

The ANMF (SA Branch) had a visible presence in the weeks leading up to the election but removing our campaign corflutes is a priority.
