Be Brave, Make Change – RAP to shape ANMF evolution

27 May 2022

Happy National Reconciliation Week to all our members!

The ANMF (SA Branch) uses this special time of the year to reconfirm some of its goals and objectives when it comes to being a more inclusive and culturally sensitive organisation.

Our vision for reconciliation is to embed an understanding and a value of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous cultures, rights and experiences throughout our workplace, membership and broader community.

We want to build on our relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nurses, midwives and broader communities, working together to identify and provide opportunities to build capacity and realise potential.

Put simply, we want to see more Indigenous nurses and midwives in our health system and better care models for our Indigenous patients.

Our Reconciliation Action Plan Steering Group for 2022 - which includes Uncle David ‘Tarnda’ Copley, registered midwife Tahlia Johnson and health care professional Damian Rigney – will be vital to our planning for the future.

National Reconciliation Week is a time we devote to raising awareness of Indigenous culture, issues and the journey towards a fully reconciled country.

It begins today (Friday, May 27), concludes on June 3 and this year’s theme is “Be brave, make change”.

It encourages Australians to tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can make change for the benefit for all Australians.

“Our commitment to reconciliation moves beyond this week as we continue our journey to embed the principles of our RAP throughout our organisation with the assistance of our expert working group,” ANMF (SA Branch) CEO/Secretary Adj Associate Professor Elizabeth Dabars AM said.
