Seeking members' feedback - Consultation Draft for the SA Rural Aboriginal Health Workforce Plan

28 September 2021

On 19 August 2021, the Minister for Health and Wellbeing released the Consultation Draft for the SA Rural Aboriginal Health Workforce Plan.

This Consultation Draft follows the release of the SA Rural Medical Workforce Plan 2019-24 in December 2019, the Rural SA Ambulance Service Workforce Plan 2020-24 in August 2020, followed by the release of the SA Rural Nursing and Midwifery Workforce Plan 2021−26 in May 2021 and the SA Rural Allied and Scientific Health Workforce Plan 2021-26 in June 2021.

The Consultation Draft outlines strategies to contribute to the sustainability of the Aboriginal health workforce in the regional setting and the unique challenges that exists for this workforce in regional areas.

The Rural Health Workforce Strategy Steering Committee, chaired by Dr Hendrika Meyer, has been guiding the development of the Consultation Draft. The strategies included in the Consultation Draft have been developed in consultation with the regional Aboriginal health workforce, peak bodies, regional consumers and professional associations. This Consultation Draft is part of the Government’s $20 million election commitment to a Rural Health Workforce Strategy.

The challenges facing the rural workforce are a state-wide issue and the Rural health Workforce Strategy Steering Committee are seeking feedback from all key stakeholders.
