RN win for Strathalbyn aged care

14 July 2021

The ANMF (SA Branch) has secured a win for the Strathalbyn & District Aged Care Facility, successfully negotiating to have a 24/7 Registered Nurse allocated to the Alvie Memory Support Unit.

The Alvie Unit plan is to open an additional 12 beds (for a total of 24) by the end of this month, to accommodate more dementia residents.

The RN is in addition to the existing 24/7 Enrolled Nurse and personal care workers and amounts to 4.58 nursing hours of care per patient per day for 24 beds.

This is in excess of the ANMF (SA Branch)’s stated desired minimum of at least 240 total minutes of aged care provided by RNs, ENs and carers from July 2024.

“This is a great win for patient and staff safety alike,’’ ANMF (SA Branch) CEO/Secretary Adj Associate Professor Elizabeth Dabars AM said.

“We congratulate members on such an important gain for the wellbeing of our vulnerable elderly.’’
