Frustrated by the Morrison Government’s inertia, South Australia’s vaccination clinics have opened today to allow all aged care workers to get the jab.
Aged-care workers of any age – including administrative and support staff - can now get the Pfizer jab through SA’s vaccination clinics rather than wait for the lagging Commonwealth rollout. It means aged-care workers can be fully vaccinated within three weeks whereas the AstraZeneca vaccine requires a 12-week interval between doses.
However, people who have already had an AstraZeneca vaccination will need to get another AstraZeneca jab.
Disturbing figures emerged this week confirming that less than 10 per cent of the nation’s aged care workers were fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.
The Department of Health revealed that only 32,833 aged care workers have received two jabs of the vaccine. There are around 366,000 Australians working in the aged care sector.
Residential aged-care workers under 50 years can book their vaccination online at
covidvaccine.sa.gov.au while those over 50 can book by calling 1800 253 787.
