Aged Care COVID-19 Vaccination - Update

21 July 2021

Forward schedule of clinics

From Monday 26 July, the Commonwealth Dept. of Health will provide regular updates on the forward schedule of in-reach clinics for aged care facilities, being provided by the Commonwealth’s vaccine providers.

The information will include:

  1. Clinic date
  2. Jurisdiction – State/Territory
  3. Address - Suburb, postcode and LGA

Additional information will also be provided on the roving clinic program.

This will be shared with branches, so you can also share the schedule with members as appropriate.

Pfizer eligibility and priority primary care access

In response to concerns raised by both unions and aged care providers regarding aged care workers being refused access to Pfizer vaccines at some state and primary care vaccination clinics, the Commonwealth has developed a letter template which includes prioritisation for residential aged care workers. This template will also be provided to all RACFs directly to make available to their workforce, and provided to the Primary Clinic network and states and territories for their awareness.

In addition, the information residential aged care workers are encouraged to take to vaccination appointments is:

  • proof of identity (e.g. driver's licence, passport, birth certificate) and
  • proof of employment (e.g. one of the following):
    • current work ID card showing employment in a relevant occupation
    • letter from employer or payslip confirming you are currently employed at a residential aged care facility, and
  • Medicare card if you have one.

The Dept. will also be providing content to promote prioritisation for Pfizer for all residential aged care workers, regardless of age, and priority access for vaccination at primary care and state and territory clinics.
