7 September 2020
This week (7 to 13 September) is Planning Ahead Week and now more than ever is the time to think about taking control of your future.
If 2020 has taught us anything, it is that life is unpredictable and our whole world can change in a moment. Planning Ahead means that you can make your choices known so they can be acted on if you cannot express them yourself at some time in the future.
This may happen if you have a sudden accident, become very ill or develop a condition that affects your memory and your planning ability.
“This week is a good time to take stock and make sure you have everything in order,’’ says Union Legal SA’s Geraldine Hannon, Chief Legal Counsel.
The in-house legal firm of the ANMF (SA Branch), Union Legal SA enables members and their families to access a range of legal services at a fraction of the cost of private law firms, potentially saving them thousands of dollars.
Union Legal SA this year extended its services at competitive rates to the wider community, including matters of personal injury, workers compensation claims, criminal, workplace and family law. The respected firm also has lawyers who have extensive experience in the areas of conveyancing, Wills and probate.
Union Legal SA also provides Powers of Attorney (authorising another person to manage your legal and financial affairs) and Advance Care Directives (a legal document that clearly sets out your future health care, residence and end-of-life arrangements).
“Life can take an unexpected turn pretty quickly. If it does, it’s reassuring to know you have access to the might and expertise of your very own law firm as an ANMF (SA Branch) member,’’ Geraldine Hannon, Chief Legal Counsel, said.
“We pride ourselves on our dedication. Our whole team works hard to get the best outcome for every one of our clients.’’
To quote Registered Nurse Louise: “Union Legal SA is amazing, and I can’t spruik about them enough... I felt extremely comfortable that I wasn’t going to be ripped off, had complete trust in the team and found the whole process much more cost-effective than having to deal with a private law firm’’.
Every year in September, Planning Ahead is promoted across South Australia through the Office for Ageing Well and various partnerships.
