4 April 2019
The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (SA Branch) met with Central Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN) Executive at 5pm yesterday (3 April) to seek further information about the
proposed organisational restructure .
As there is currently inadequate information or detail outlined in the proposed program remodel to enable genuine consultation, at this meeting the ANMF (SA Branch) requested:
* clarification of the proposed job descriptions of the Manager – Clinical Program Delivery and Nurse Lead roles in order for consultation to begin and to enable us to better understand how the proposed management structure will operate in relation to decision-making, reporting and accountability.
* More information on the rationale behind the proposed eight program models.
* Confirmation of CALHN’s proposed process in relation to the agreed industrial instruments and the HR principles for the proposal.
We also highlighted to CALHN Executive that the large span of control and direct reporting remains a concern. Central to our concern is the diminishing support and mentoring available to Level 3 and 4 nurses with the proposed dissolving of many senior nursing positions. This is particularly troubling at a time when practice change is required to meet CALHN’s turnaround targets and ongoing commitment to excellence.
In essence, the ANMF (SA Branch) consider the proposal to be an attack on the professional nursing structure—a concern that was clearly communicated to CALHN at yesterday’s meeting.
CALHN has committed to providing the above information in the coming days. We will provide this information to members once received.
The ANMF (SA Branch) is meeting with Level 3 and 4 Registered Nurses in CALHN next week to ascertain further feedback on the proposal. In the meantime, any CALHN members with specific concerns should contact the Duty Officer on 8334 1900 for advice and support.
