NALHN cuts breaks for emergency department staff without genuine consultation

20 February 2019

Emergency department nursing staff across Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) hospitals were this week shocked to be told they were no longer entitled to take a tea break, following a decision made by management without genuine staff consultation.

NALHN also rescheduled ED staff meal break times and distributed a form that features ANMF (SA Branch) branding despite not having been authorised or endorsed by the ANMF (SA Branch).

ANMF (SA Branch) officers have formally advised NALHN Executive to reverse the changes to tea and meal breaks and maintain the status quo until genuine consultation occurs with members. The LHN has also been asked to withdraw the unauthorised ANMF (SA Branch)-branded form and any reference to the form in their procedures.

ANMF (SA Branch) officers are continuing to engage directly with affected members and will provide an update on this issue once a response is received from NALHN.
