In a sector in crisis where providers are already being exposed for unsafe staffing, poor working conditions and low-ball wages, the ANMF is hearing reports that some aged care providers are now pressuring their employees to spend their own money on Christmas presents for residents in their care.
While aged care staff often choose to treat their residents with a festive gift, being pressured to do so by their employer is a new low for staff already burdened by workload issues, lower wages and a raft of other issues that have warranted a Royal Commission into the sector.
